In the event of a fire or medical emergency in the Village of Amelia, at the same time emergency equipment is being sent to you, an Amelia Police Officer is also dispatched.  In addition to the first aid training officers were taught in the police academy, all Amelia Police Officers have completed the American Heart Association’s Heartsaver First Aid with CPR and AED course.

Two of our officers have also completed the First Emergency Responder class offered at Clermont College. Our on-duty officers have an automated external defibrillator (AED) in the patrol car at all times, along with a first aid kit and fire extinguisher. We also have direct radio contact with the responding paramedic unit or fire truck to provide them instant on-scene updates on any information that may have not been known at the time the original call came in.

The American Heart Association estimates that about 220,000 people die each year from sudden cardiac arrest. For every minute that passes without defibrillation, a victim’s chances of survival decrease by 7-10 percent. AED’s are also located in the Amelia Elementary School and our Municipal Building.

For further information on AED’s, CPR or First Aid Training, contact the American Heart Association, the American Red Cross, or the Union Township Fire Department.
