To promote our Mission of partnering with the community, the Amelia Police Department has an active Bike Patrol. Our bike patrol provides many benefits. Bikes enable officers to patrol areas which are inaccessible to vehicles such as our Village Parks. The interaction of the bike officers with the public is by far the greatest benefit. Our bike patrol has been especially helpful in keeping “Trick-Or-Treaters” safe on Halloween.
Our Bike Patrol Officers have completed an intense course of training by the International Police Mountain Bike Association. They are also available to speak with community groups about bicycle safety.
In the spring of 2008, we hope to expand our unit to have two officers patrolling on bikes.
